Discrimination takes many forms. Street people are often arrested for sleeping on the streets when they have no alternative legal place to sleep. Don’t they have to sleep somewhere? Aren’t people discriminating against themselves - those who are desperately poor or ill or very unlucky?
It appears to me that, in the community of the unhoused, people discriminate against each other a little less. They are all in the same boat often helping each other as best they can to survive. I have learned so much from listening and watching people who have no roof over their heads. Maya Angelou knew this when she wrote the words I have borrowed as a title for this sculpture.
